Staying near us

If you’re staying close to us this is a viable method of transportation but you'll have to find lodging with parking. Make sure you research the options you find. Zach's had to go through some crazy parking ordeals in Portugal.

Staying near venue

You might have better luck finding parking in places close to the venue because they're further outside the city. We still recommend you double check your options to make sure you don't have any unpleasant and unexpected parking surprises.

Information that's good to know

The public transportation and Uber/Lyft coverage in Lisbon is really good. You don’t need a car if you’re staying in the city or venturing to Sintra.

The argument for getting a car is if you plan on doing a lot of traveling around Portugal. We rented a car when we drove around looking at venues across the country. It was worth it because we were traveling long distances.

If you do get the car, pay the extra €5/day to get the fast-pass for the tolls.

Driving on the highways wasn’t difficult, and most people were well behaved.

Caution

Parking can be a nightmare in the city.

Choosing the ‘parking’ filter on Airbnb will limit your options.

The city was built well before cars so be prepared for an adventure down one-way cobblestone roads.

Gas prices are at least double the price of gas in the U.S.

There is an obscene number of tolls.

If you arrive in terminal 1

As you exit the arrivals hall into the main area, turn right, and walk about 50 meters to the end of the hall.

Turn right and you should see a hallway with people at all of the rental car company desks.

If you arrive in terminal 2

This terminal has no direct connection to rental car services. You can either walk the 1km or take the free bus that departs every 10 - 20 minutes to terminal 1.
